The official national page confirms that registration for Metz is closed. République and the Esplanade remain free-access areas; Human Rights Square becomes free from 1:30pm.

LE MET’ is free, but the city centre is on foot only

On 28 September no LE MET’ bus or METTIS service will enter the city centre. Lines will terminate at Square du Luxembourg, Bon Secours, Seille or Trèves. The prefecture also confirms systematic access checks and the closure of public car parks inside the security perimeter; vehicles must be removed from it from the preceding weekend.

Messagerie open; street closures start Sunday

Messagerie car park remains open on Monday 28, as do Paixhans, Maud’Huy, Boulevard de Trèves and Muse. Several central streets close from 10am on Sunday 27, including Place d’Armes, Place de Chambre and Avenue de l’Amphithéâtre. Check your route before leaving.

Stops moved in front of the station on Sunday 27

Throughout Sunday 27 September, the stops at Metz’s multimodal hub will be temporarily moved to Place du Général-de-Gaulle, in front of the railway station. Check the TER notice if you arrive the day before by coach or bus.

AIRPORT ALERT
No commercial flights on 28 September.

Lorraine Airport will suspend all commercial flights on the day of the visit. Its passenger car park closes on 1 September; a free overflow car park on Route 910 and free shuttles will serve the terminal. Affected passengers should follow their airline’s instructions.

Popemobile route from 2:30 pm

Avenue Foch, Place Mondon, Avenue Robert Schuman, Place de la République, Rue Haute-Pierre, Rue du Juge-Pierre-Michel, Rue de la Garde, Quai Paul-Vautrin, Place de Chambre and Rue d’Estrées.

Choose your side of the route before arriving

The City of Metz warns that the route will be impossible to cross along almost its entire length. It recommends the Human Rights forecourt for the Pope’s arrival on foot, the Popemobile from 2:30 pm and Place d’Armes on arrival, where a blessing of the crowd is announced.
